Programme Overview

The Funza Lushaka Bursary Programme is a South African government initiative managed by the Department of Basic Education. The programme aims to attract young South Africans into the teaching profession by providing full-cost bursaries to students studying towards a teaching qualification at approved public universities.

In return for funding, bursary recipients are required to teach at a public school for the same number of years that they received funding.

Minimum Requirements

Work-Back Obligation

Recipients are required to teach at a public school for the same number of years that they were funded under the bursary programme.

How to Apply

  1. Visit the e-Government portal at www.eservices.gov.za.
  2. Register by creating an account and providing your personal details.
  3. Log in using your registered username and password.
  4. From the e-Services menu, select Education.
  5. Choose Funza Lushaka Bursary Scheme.
  6. Enter the OTP (One-Time Pin) sent to your registered contact details.
  7. Accept the Terms and Conditions.
  8. On the dashboard, click on the 2026 Application button.
  9. Complete all required sections of the online application form.
  10. Accept the declaration confirming that all information provided is correct.
  11. Submit your application.

Applicants will receive electronic feedback via email regarding the status of their application. Only complete applications submitted before the closing date will be considered.
