Welcome to the Masakh’iSizwe Bursary Programme, an initiative by the Western Cape Department of Infrastructure aimed at supporting students pursuing studies in engineering and the built environment.

Who Can Apply

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must be accepted or intending to study at Stellenbosch University, University of Cape Town, or Cape Peninsula University of Technology
  • Must be studying or intending to study full-time in a relevant field within the Western Cape

Preference will be given to financially disadvantaged students, women, persons with disabilities, and applicants from rural areas of the Western Cape.

  • Quantity Surveying
  • Architecture
  • Construction
  • Civil Engineering
  • Geomatics
  • Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current)
  • Mechanical Engineering

What the Bursary Covers

  • Tuition fees
  • Prescribed books and study materials
  • Accommodation and meals (or transport costs)
  • Support programmes and academic assistance

Required Supporting Documents

  • Certified copy of ID
  • Certified copy of parent/guardian ID
  • Matric certificate or latest academic results
  • Academic record (if already at tertiary level)
  • Proof of application or registration at institution
  • Motivation letter
  • Proof of household income
  • Proof of address

Important Dates

  • Applications Open: 1 April 2026
  • Closing Date: 31 August 2026 (midnight)

Late applications will not be considered. Applicants who do not receive feedback by 12 February 2027 should consider their application unsuccessful.

Important Notes

  • Only complete applications will be considered
  • Applicants may be required to attend workshops and training during studies
  • Successful bursars may be required to undergo professional development after graduation
  • Separate applications are required for different universities or study fields
