About the NAC Bursary Funding
The National Arts Council (NAC) provides bursary funding to develop excellence in the arts. By supporting training and education, the NAC helps grow the talent of students, art practitioners, art technicians, arts administrators, and other industry-related professionals. This ensures South Africa has a sustainable pool of talented artists and arts leaders.
Purpose of the Funding
- Support the development of skilled artists and arts industry professionals.
- Provide financial assistance to institutions for undergraduate bursaries in the arts.
- Ensure a sustainable pool of talent in South Africa’s arts and culture sector.
Who Can Apply
The invitation is extended to registered education and training institutions involved in the provision of tuition in the following fields:
- Theatre
- Dance
- Crafts
- Literature
- Multidiscipline arts
- Music
- Visual arts
- Cultural policy
- Arts and culture management
- Any arts-related course
Institutions may apply for block institutional bursaries to support undergraduate students studying in South Africa during 2026. Funding will be provided for the duration of the undergraduate studies, subject to successful completion of each year. Institutions are required to enter into a service level agreement with the NAC.
Minimum Requirements
- Only South African citizens are eligible.
- Applicants must be registered education and training institutions in the relevant arts fields.
- Institutions must commit to supporting students for the duration of their studies.
Closing Date & Outcomes
- Application Closing Date: 19 December 2025 at 11h59
- Outcomes Announced: 30 January 2026
- Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
